The murder trial of a University of Cincinnati policeman who fatally shot a driver he stopped over a missing front license plate has been delayed.

Ray Tensing's trial on murder and voluntary manslaughter charges in the July 19 shooting of Samuel DuBose had been scheduled for Nov. 16. But a Hamilton County prosecutor's spokeswoman says a pre-trial hearing is now set for that day. No new trial date has been set.

Tensing has pleaded not guilty. His attorney has said Tensing feared being dragged under the car as DuBose tried to drive away.

The university fired Tensing shortly after his indictment.

Tensing's attorney has requested the trial be moved because of extensive pretrial publicity and prejudicial comments by some city officials and the prosecutor. The prosecution hasn't filed its response.
