A 90-year-old Minnesota man has been charged with murder after he called 911 to tell police he shot and killed his son, police said Sunday.
Police said they found the son, 65, dead Saturday inside a Maplewood home with an apparent gunshot wound. Kenneth Henry Bowser was booked on suspicion of homicide by officers with the Maplewood Police Department.
“The focus of investigators at this point is to determine exactly what prompted this tragic shooting,” Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell said, according to MyFoxTwinCities.
Larry Kinston Bowser lived with his father in the house and an argument may have led to the fatal shooting, WCCO-TV reported Sunday.
Schnell told the station the nonagenarian was lucid when he told officers what happened.
“There were periods of time when he did have perhaps less kind of awareness, but in this particular instance he was very fluent, very clear about what happened, the sequence of what happened, so last night there were no difficulties or issues with his recalling what occurred,” the chief said.
The elder Bowser called police shortly after 7:40 p.m. Saturday to report he had shot his son with a pistol.
Officers asked him to come out of the home and took him into custody without incident, MyFoxTwinCities said.
While searching the house they found the son’s body.
No one else was inside the home at the time of the shooting.
Maplewood is a small community about 10 miles east of St. Paul.
