Maryland State Police are searching for a driver who struck and killed a Marine who had stopped to help a disabled vehicle during a fierce storm Tuesday night.

Cops say they’re looking for a black tractor-trailer with heavy damage on the right front, according to WUSA9.

The vehicle, a truck towing a car-hauling trailer, allegedly struck Cpl. William Ferrell, 21, of North Carolina around 10:50 p.m. on northbound Route 15 near Auburn Road, WBAL reported. Witnesses told police the truck stopped about 100 yards from the scene for several minutes, but drove off as others attended to Ferrell.

Ferrell was assigned to the Naval Support Facility in Thurmont, Md.
