An Arizona man will have to find a new lawyer when he appears in court next month.
Chet Jack Wadsworth Maley, 28, was standing trial in the 2016 murder of his former girlfriend, 29-year-old Roxanne Ortiz, when he attacked one of his attorneys on Friday after a Tucson jury found him guilty, AZCentral reported.
Maley waited for the jury to leave the room before turning to punch Craig Kessler in the side of his head. Sheriff’s deputies rushed over and wrestled the suspect to the ground.
When court resumed, Maley wasn't in the courtroom and paramedics arrived to tend to Kessler.
The remaining members of Maley’s defense team motioned to allow the public defenders to withdraw as his counsel -- a motion granted by the judge.

Maley will be represented by a contracted attorney for his May 13 sentencing and a subsequent case stemming from the apparent attack on Kessler.
Maley was accused of stabbing Ortiz to death on Nov. 21, 2016, AZCentral reported. Video surveillance showed him throwing her body over a wall in a parking lot and repeatedly stabbing her.
