A man convicted in the death and dismemberment of a Bourbon Street dancer will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Terry Speaks was sentenced Thursday in the 2013 death of Jaren Lockhart.

Multiple news reports say Judge Stephen Grefer also sentenced Speaks to 40 years for obstruction of justice and 20 years for conspiracy to obstruct justice. The first sentence will run consecutively to the life sentence; the second will run concurrent with the first.

Grefer also denied a request for a new trial.

Speaks and his girlfriend, Margaret Sanchez, are accused of cutting up Lockhart's body and dumping the remains along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Sanchez's trial is set for Dec. 7.
