Maintenance may have contributed to fatal elevator accident, NYC official says

New York City's Buildings Department commissioner says maintenance work may have contributed to an elevator accident in which an advertising executive was crushed to death.

Robert LiMandri tells The New York Times that a maintenance company did repair work on the elevator just before the Dec. 14 accident.

He says that based on the investigation thus far, the repair work was believed to be a contributing cause, or the cause, of the accident.

Suzanne Hart was killed at the 26-story Manhattan office tower. She worked for Y&R, the advertising agency formerly known as Young & Rubicam.

The Manhattan district attorney also is investigating. No charges have been filed.
