The jury has begun its first full day of deliberations in the trial of a white North Carolina police officer charged with voluntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man two years ago.
Before the jury adjourned for the day Tuesday, the jury foreman asked Judge Richard C. Ervin to review the elements of a voluntary manslaughter charge. He repeated the three elements which he had read to the racially diverse jury of eight women and four men just after closing arguments.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Officer Randall Kerrick, who's suspended from the police force, is charged in the shooting death of Jonathan Ferrell, a former Florida A&M football player. Ferrell wrecked his car and went to a home seeking help. The woman inside the home called police.
