A judge wants a South Carolina mother who police say put her 4-day-old baby in a refrigerator for hours, killing him, to have a mental evaluation before he decides whether to set bond.

Prosecutors requested the evaluation Tuesday. Angela Blackwell's lawyer didn't fight the request, saying her IQ is around the level of an elementary school student.

Authorities say the baby died at a Chester home on Feb. 27. The 27-year-old mother was charged with homicide by child abuse last month.

The Herald of Rock Hill reports (http://bit.ly/2cpUm7R ) that public defender Mike Lifsey questioned the charge, saying there were nine other people in the home.

Lifsey says if he spent hours in the room with an elementary school child, he could get her to confess to a lot of things.
