A suburban Detroit man has been denied a request for a new trial in the slaying of his wife.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Vonda Evans ruled Friday that Bob Bashara did not prove that his trial attorneys were deficient, saying there was no miscarriage of justice that led to his first-degree murder conviction.

The 57-year-old Bashara was sentenced to life in prison in the 2012 killing of Jane Bashara at their Grosse Pointe Park home. Her body was found inside her Mercedes-Benz in Detroit.

Bob Bashara wanted the conviction and sentence thrown out, saying his rights were violated by an ineffective defense.

Handyman Joe Gentz is in prison for second-degree murder. He says he was hired to kill Jane Bashara at her husband's direction.
