The secretary general of the Islamic Society of North America in Plainfield says American Muslims refuse to be victims in their own country.

Hazem Bata said at a news conference Monday that Muslims won't abandon their faith "simply because of some spray paint."

Vulgar anti-Muslim graffiti was spray-painted Sunday morning on an exterior wall of the ISNA headquarters about 15 miles west of Indianapolis.

ISNA says security cameras captured three individuals committing the vandalism.

Hundreds of non-Muslims joined ISNA officials at the news conference to condemn the vandalism, lend their support to the Muslim community and call on lawmakers to approve an Indiana hate-crimes law.

Bata says the spray paint already has been washed away but ISNA's interfaith partners "are still here."
