DECATUR, Ga. – The family of a man who Atlanta-area authorities say died after a police chase that involved a stun gun is suing officers.
News outlets report the attorneys for Troy Robinson's family announced Monday the wrongful-death lawsuit against DeKalb County and three police officers.
Thirty-three-year-old Robinson was shot with a stun gun while climbing an 8-foot wall after being pursued by police following a traffic stop last August. He fell to the ground and died.
Authorities said Robinson had run from officers after the vehicle he was a passenger in was stopped for a tag violation.
His family's attorneys say Robinson had a right to flee police and that the traffic stop was unlawful, citing racial profiling.
DeKalb County Police tell news outlets the department doesn't comment on pending lawsuits.
