A search for a popular horse that escaped from a Douglas County ranch has ended with the help of a drone, which spotted the animal wounded and stuck in a bushy area near the ranch.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports the horse, Houdini, escaped Thursday from an 800-acre ranch in Castle Rock. The horse, known for marching in parades and spending time with nursing home residents and children, was found Sunday by a drone outfitted with a $3,000 infrared camera.

Groups of volunteers had searched the area for Houdini by horse, foot and vehicle. The owners of a drone business were called in for help, and found the animal using a custom-made drone.

Houdini suffered wounds from a barbed wire fence, but is recovering at another ranch in Larkspur.
