Bank accounts belonging to the widow of a northern Illinois police officer who authorities say killed himself after embezzling from a youth program will remain frozen until Feb. 2.

The (Waukegan) News Sun reports (http://trib.in/1JrRROy ) that attorneys for Melodie Gliniewicz on Tuesday agreed to let prosecutors extend the freeze on seven bank accounts pending an investigation.

Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz died Sept. 1. Authorities claim he staged his suicide to look like a homicide because he feared discovery of the embezzlement.

Melodie Gliniewicz wants a court order overturned that freezes several of her family's personal accounts. She has received access to about $4,200 in savings and $33,500 from a paycheck and donations received after her husband's death.

No one has been charged in connection with Gliniewicz's alleged embezzlement.
