FORT BELVOIR, Va. – In headlines on a July 3 story about the retirement of Command Sgt. Maj. Jeff Mellinger, The Associated Press, relying on information from the Army's Human Resources Command, erroneously called Mellinger the last Vietnam War-era draftee. The story itself said the Army believed he was the last draftee still serving. A spokesman for the Human Resources Command says that after the story was published, the command became aware of and verified that at least two other active duty servicemen drafted in the Vietnam War era are still serving in the military. They are Chief Warrant Officer 5 Ralph Rigby and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Franklin Ernst.
