Two construction companies and two supervisors have been charged with manslaughter and other crimes in the death of a construction worker crushed at a Manhattan site.

District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. on Wednesday announced the charges in the April death of Carlos Moncayo, an employee with Sky Materials Corp.

The 22-year-old Moncayo was in an unsecured trench when it caved. Prosecutors say despite repeated safety warnings that the site was unstable and dangerous, company supervisors Wilmer Cueva and Alfonso Prestia allowed workers to continue.

Cueva, Prestia and their companies Sky and Harco Construction LLC were also charged with criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangerment. They were awaiting arraignment and it is not clear whether they had attorneys.
