Authorities have dropped charges against a Tennessee assistant high school basketball coach accused of failing to report child sexual abuse of players by teammates.

An order of dismissal regarding Ooltewah High School assistant Karl Williams was filed Wednesday in Hamilton County "based on his volunteer status as a coach and that he was not provided any training regarding the mandatory reporting law."

The (Chattanooga) Times-Free Press first reported the news.

Gatlinburg police have charged three Ooltewah players with the aggravated rape of one teammate. The Hamilton County district attorney's office says four players were "subjected to apparent sexual assault" in December.

Williams was one of three school officials charged with failure to report. Head coach Andre Montgomery was indicted last week. Athletic director Allard Nayadley is entering a pretrial diversion program.
