JERSEY CITY, N.J. – A judge has denied a bail reduction for two Pennsylvania residents arrested last week when they tried to drive into New York City with a cache of weapons.
Their attorneys were in court Wednesday in Jersey City, New Jersey, asking the judge to allow them to post 10 percent of their $75,000 bail instead of the whole amount in cash.
John Cramsey, Dean Smith and Kimberly Arendt have pleaded not guilty to weapons charges. Arendt has a new attorney and wasn't at Wednesday's hearing.
They were arrested as they prepared to enter the Holland Tunnel in a truck carrying weapons including a semi-automatic military-style rifle, a shotgun and five handguns. Defense attorneys say the police search was illegal.
Cramsey had posted online he was heading to New York to "rescue" a 16-year-old girl whose friend had overdosed on heroin.
