A 16-year-old girl who appeared to be kidnapped off a New York City street while walking with her mother Monday night has been found, investigators announced Tuesday.

The New York Police Department tweeted that Karol Sanchez was found unharmed in the Bronx near the spot where she was snatched.

"WE HAVE A VICTORY TODAY !! Karol has been found !!! Thank you to all who have worked very hard to track down the people involved in this case !!!" the department's 40th Precinct wrote.

Surveillance footage taken in the Bronx showed Sanchez being pulled into a car late Monday night as her 36-year-old mother tried to fight off a group of mystery attackers who appeared to be in their 20s, police said. It was not clear if any suspects were in police custody.

The struggle lasted a few seconds. The mother tried to fight off the kidnappers but they shoved her to the ground, police said.

“I heard screeching of tires," witness Damon Doughty told the New York Daily News. “I went to the window and when I got there there were three people in a car and the guy in the backseat was kicking the mom out of the back seat. Then they grabbed the daughter back into the car because it looked like she tried to get away. Then the car sped off. She (the victim’s mother) ran and she was screaming. She was just screaming and yelling.”

An Amber Alert issued Tuesday said Sanchez “was taken under circumstances that lead police to believe she may be in imminent danger of serious bodily harm and/or death.”

The alert said police were searching for four black male suspects and the New York City Police Department was offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to their capture.

Sanchez's mother told the newspaper she was planning to relocate to her native Honduras with her daughter. Karol Sanchez objected to the plan, the Daily News reported.

Investigators were looking into whether the move had anything to do with the kidnapping.
