MARIETTA, Ga. – A judge has approved five more jurors for the jury pool to decide the fate of a Georgia man accused of intentionally leaving his toddler son to die in a hot SUV.
Local news media report that 21 have qualified for the jury pool after Judge Mary Staley's selection on Wednesday. Thirty-five-year-old Justin Ross Harris faces charges including murder in the June 2014 death of his 22-month-old son, Cooper.
There was a pool of 250 potential jurors initially summoned for the case.
Cobb County prosecutors have said Harris was unhappily married and was looking for an escape.
Defense attorneys say their client, who moved from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to Georgia in 2012 to work for Home Depot, was a loving father and that the death was a tragic mistake.
