A second suspect faces murder charges over a shootout that killed two Southern University students at an off-campus party.

Baton Rouge police said in a written statement Friday that 22-year-old Ernest Bernard Felton, of Miami, has been charged with second-degree murder and obstruction for the April 10 shooting that killed 19-year-old students Lashuntae Benton and Annette January.

Felton was initially arrested on an attempted-murder charge after police say he shot and wounded Henderson.

Also charged with second-degree murder is 25-year-old Brandon Christopher Henderson of Baton Rouge. A police report says Henderson told investigators he started the shootout, but police don't believe he fired the fatal shots.

Police have described Benton and January as "innocent bystanders" caught in the crossfire.
