Fifteen Oklahoma Air National Guard members are set to deploy to Afghanistan.

The airmen from the 146th Air Support Operations Squadron will leave Monday from Will Rogers Air National Guard Base in Oklahoma City.

Officials say the airmen will support more than 2,500 Oklahoma Army National Guard soldiers from the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The soldiers deployed to the region earlier this year.

The airmen will call in air strikes and provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assistance to the 45th's ground commanders.

Lt. Gen. Harry "Bud" Wyatt, the director of the Air National Guard, says it's the first time in Oklahoma that an Oklahoma Air National Guard unit is being deployed in support of an Oklahoma Army National Guard unit.
