Police say a 13-year-old girl and her mother have been charged in the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old girl during a fight outside an apartment complex on Chicago's South Side.

Police say the girl was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the death of DeKayla Dansberry, a high school freshman in Englewood on Saturday. She is charged as a juvenile.

Police say the mother, 35-year-old Tamika Gayden, provided the knife. She is charged with murder and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

It isn't clear if either has an attorney to comment on their behalf.

Dansberry died at a hospital.

Dansberry's father, Julien Glanton, says he doesn't know the reason for the fight, but that he's sure it was "kids' stuff" that escalated.
