Mainz, Germany – Mainz striker Mohamed Zidan has been fined approximately $8,000 by the German Football Federation for excessive celebration after scoring against Kaiserslautern on Feb. 25, it was announced Wednesday.
Zidan, who has scored in all five of his appearances since joining the club in January, was sited for "unsporting behavior" by the German Federation after the Egyptian marked the goal by climbing the fence surrounding the field and singing along with the Mainz supporters.
The 30-year-old accepted the fine and issued an apology for the incident.
"I regret getting carried away in the euphoria following our home win," he said.
