The New York Yankees have signed left-handed reliever Hideki Okajima to a minor league contract, according to a story on the team's website.

The 36-year-old Okajima compiled a 17-8 mark with a 3.11 earned run average and 215 strikeouts in five seasons with the Boston Red Sox after coming over from Japan in 2007.

Okajima, though, did not make Boston's 2011 Opening Day roster after struggling in 2010 with a 4.50 ERA. The lefty appeared in just seven games for Boston last season.
