Wolfsburg, Germany – Marcel Schafer scored off a free kick in the 75th minute as Wolfsburg won its third straight Bundesliga match, 2-1 over Hamburg on Friday at the Volkswagen Arena.
Mario Mandzukic handed Wolfsburg its first lead just seconds after half, but a response from Hamburg came off the restart through Marcus Berg in the 47th.
Schafer decided the game when he curled a free kick from the right side to the near post and sneaked the ball just past Hamburg goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny.
Wolfsburg is unbeaten in four straight matches and climbed to eighth place in the standings and to within two points of a Europa League spot.
Hamburg lost its fourth straight match as its slide toward the relegation zone continued. Hamburg is just two points above the bottom three in 14th place.
