St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Minnesota Wild forward Zach Parise missed Tuesday night's game against San Jose to be with his family while his father battles cancer, the team said.

Parise's father, former NHL star J.P., has lung cancer.

"The Wild supports his decision to be with his family ... and asks that their privacy be respected," the team said in a statement.

J.P. Parise had 154 goals and 242 assists in 588 NHL games between 1965-79, including 588 for the Minnesota North Stars.
