St. Louis, MO – The wife of St. Louis Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan underwent surgery to have a brain tumor removed.
Jeanine Duncan had the surgery on Sunday, the team said in a release issued Friday on behalf of the couple.
Dave Duncan, who has taken a leave of absence from the team, said his wife's spirits remain high and indicated she has had no loss of memory nor experienced any difficulty communicating.
"Dave and Jeanine are currently in the process of putting together a treatment and rehabilitation program and have received consultation from some of the leading medical specialists in the country," the release said.
"Dave, on behalf of Jeanine and the entire Duncan family, wanted to thank everyone for the many well-wishes and the show of support that they have received during this difficult time."
No further details were given.
Duncan has been the St. Louis pitching coach since coming to the team with manager Tony La Russa in 1996 and has been the pitching coach under La Russa for the White Sox, Athletics and Cardinals since 1983.
