On the surface, Florida should have no problem with this week's opponent in FAU.
The Owls are 2-8 on the season, and are undoubtedly a smaller, less-talented football team when compared to their counterparts.
With that said, UF head coach Jim McElwain isn't taking this team lightly. He's very impressed with one specific aspect of FAU.
"There's a ton to prove for guys and they know how hard these guys will play and they've got some weapons," said McElwain. "The thing that strikes you when you watch the film is the overall team speed."
A considerable chunk of FAU's roster hails from the state of Florida. Virtually none of these players were recruited by the Gators. As such, a monumental chip on the collective shoulder of this team will likely be present.
Additionally, will Florida be overlooking FAU ahead of next week's clash with Florida State? Injuries could also be an issue up front for the Gators -- as Alex McCalister, Joey Ivie, and Jordan Sherit will all be unavailable this week. McElwain is truly trying to have his squad keep things in perspective.
"We have so much work to do about who we are and the standard in which we choose to perform with," said McElwain. "You never arrive. As soon as you think you arrive, there's someone out there to beat your tail off."
