Manchester, England – Manchester United acquired 19-year-old defender Frederic Veseli from rival Manchester City on Tuesday.
Veseli, a center back, plays for Switzerland's Under-20 side and captained the Swiss to the U-17 World Cup title in 2009. He initially joined City in 2008.
"I am very happy and it is an honor to sign for Manchester United," Veseli said. "I can't wait to get started, to work hard and do everything I can to help the team.
"I am very thankful to Sir Alex Ferguson for bringing me to such a great club. Manchester United has a long history of younger players coming through and hopefully I can follow and do the same."
United also announced Tuesday that 18-year-old Ravel Morrison has joined West Ham on a 3 1/2-year deal.
"I'm really pleased to have signed and I'm very happy," Morrison said. "The move has happened very quickly and I'm looking forward to hopefully moving up to the Premier League with West Ham soon."
