Tim Clark hit a 304-yard tee shot that set up one last birdie Friday for another 5-under 65 and a share of the early second-round lead with Troy Merritt at the Sony Open.

Hitting 300-yard drives is not a big deal these days, but it is for Clark, one of the shortest hitters on the tour. It was a testament to how well he is feeling, and how firm the fairways are getting at Waialae Country Club.

Merritt also made birdie on his last hole for a 64 to join Clark at 10-under 130.

Russell Knox had a 65 and was one shot behind among the early starters. Defending champion Jimmy Walker had his 15th straight round in the 60s in Hawaii and was two shots behind.
