Swansea City signed Dutch goalkeeper Michel Vorm from Utrecht on Thursday, and he will likely step into a starting job on Monday in the club's English Premier League opener against Manchester City.

Vorm, 27, joined Swansea for $2.3 million and signed a three-year contract. He will replace Dorus de Vries, who signed with Wolverhampton.

"I know Dorus was very popular here, and he did very well," said Vorm. "Dorus got a move to Wolves, so that leaves an opportunity.

"Hopefully I will take that opportunity. I know I will fit into the style at Swansea - it's not like the other British clubs where the goalkeeper is told to hit it down the pitch."

Vorm has played five times for the Netherlands.
