Sunderland, England (SportsNetwork.com) - The Football Association has confirmed that Sunderland defender Wes Brown will serve a two-match suspension after his red card against Hull City on Saturday.

Brown was sent off after just four minutes when he brought down Hull striker Shane Long as the last defender, with the Tigers going on to beat the Black Cats 2-0 behind goals from Long and Nikica Jelavic.

The 34-year-old has now been sent off three times in league play, although one of those red cards, against Stoke City, was overturned on an appeal.

Brown has appeared in 13 Premiership matches for Sunderland this term, and he will now miss a league visit to Manchester City in midweek as well as this weekend's FA Cup match with Southampton.
