Madrid, Spain ( - Quique Sanchez Flores has been appointed as the new manager of Getafe following the departure of former boss Cosmin Contra.

Sanchez Flores returns to Getafe 10 years after he helped the team earn promotion to the top flight, before going on to coach at Valencia, Benfica and Atletico Madrid.

The 49-year-old was most recently involved with Dubai side Al-Ain, and he arrives at Getafe with the club sitting in 14th place, four points above the drop zone.

"I'm happy, it's been 10 years since I was here and I only wanted to go back to a place which made me happy, and Getafe is one of those places," Sanchez Flores said. "I've only been a few hours back here and it's like I've never been away. The priority at this moment of my life is to be happy coaching and I can achieve that here. It's not only that, there are also objectives to fulfill."

During a two-year spell at Atletico, Sanchez Flores guided the team to the 2010 Europa League title as well as the UEFA Super Cup. But he inherits a side that is winless in its last seven league games and will travel to eighth-place Eibar on Saturday.
