The Kansas City Royals announced Wednesday that they have traded right-handed pitcher Joe Blanton to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations.
Blanton, 34, was designated for assignment Tuesday to make room on the 25-man roster for pitcher Johnny Cueto.
In his first season with Kansas City, Blanton was 2-2 with a 3.89 ERA in 41 2/3 innings. In 15 games he made four starts while also earning two saves.
