No one knows what uniform LeBron James will be wearing next season. But now we know what number he wants.

James filed paperwork to switch from No. 23 to No. 6, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported on Monday. The NBA's deadline for number change requests is Wednesday.

The Cavaliers star said in November that he was considering giving up No. 23 out of respect for Michael Jordan.

"I've done it," James told the Plain Dealer. "I already sent it in. I'm going to be No. 6."

The NBA does not have to grant his request, but number changes tend to boost jersey sales, which benefit the league.

James has worn 23 since his sophomore year of high school with the exception of wearing 6 for the Olympic team.

James will be the most coveted free agent in NBA history this summer.
