(SportsNetwork.com) - The New Jersey Devils have reportedly fired head coach Peter DeBoer a day after Christmas.
According to TSN, DeBoer, who led the Devils to a 12-17-7 start, has been fired after his team has dropped seven of its last eight games.
DeBoer compiled a 114-93-41 record as the Devils' coach and guided the team to the playoffs during the 2011 season, his first with the Devils.
DeBoer's best season in New Jersey was his first as he guided the team to a 48-28-6 record in 2011-12. The Devils represented the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals, but lost to the Los Angeles Kings in six games.
Prior joining New Jersey, DeBoer was the head coach of the Florida Panthers from 2008-11 and posted a record of 103-107-36 during his tenure in Florida.
DeBoer also coached in the Ontario Hockey League for 13 seasons with Kitchener, Plymouth and Detroit. He won a Memorial Cup title in 2003 with Kitchener.
New Jersey, which plays the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, has not yet announced a replacement.
