Vigo, Spain – Real Zaragoza wasted an opportunity to escape from the bottom three on Monday after Mario Bermejo's stoppage-time winner lifted Celta Vigo to a 2-1 victory at the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos.
A win for Zaragoza would have lifted the club into 16th place in the La Liga table on 30 points from 32 matches, but the hosts had other ideas as a late first-half goal by Alex Lopez put the sides on level terms and Bermejo secured three points for his club in the second minute of stoppage time.
Zaragoza was on the front foot early on and opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Cristian Sapunaru got his head to a lofted free kick into the box from Apono and easily nodded it past Celta Vigo goalkeeper Javi Varas for the early advantage.
But Celta Vigo found an equalizer in the 36th minute when Lopez got his head to a cross from the right flank from Augusto Fernandez and nodded it on goal.
Zaragoza goalkeeper Roberto Gago appeared to make the save, but he got his gloves on the ball after it had already crossed the line and the goal stood for Celta Vigo.
The match appeared to be headed for a stalemate, but Bermejo made sure his side claimed three points when Fabian Orellana fired a cross into the box and Bermejo was there to knock it home for Celta Vigo, which improved to 27 points with the result, but still appears headed for relegation.
