If Twitter were a tennis match, Rafael Nadal would have won in straight sets.

That's because the Spanish tennis icon gained more than 150,000 followers on his @RafaelNadal account in one just day since joining the social network site.

"Hi all! I have Twitter profile!" he tweeted as his first tweet. "I am thrilled to have your support here! You’ll hear more from me. Rafa."

Nadal's follower count seemed to be aflame as it reached 150,282 in just over 24 hours since his first tweet.

And the No. 2 ranked player in the world, behind Novak Djokovic and ahead of Roger Federer, showed that he understood the allure of celebrities on Twitter just fine, posting a candid photo of himself and his three little cousins during his training on Tuesday.

With 12 tweets so far, Nadal has decided to be an all-inclusive tweeter, often posting the same message in both Spanish and English.

He also took time to thank his fans for their thunderous first day of support.

"I didn't expect a first day like this," he wrote in Spanish.

"Thank you to everyone for your support."
