Pirates recall OF Pie from minors

The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled outfielder Felix Pie from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday among several roster moves.

The Bucs signed Pie to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training back in November.

The 28-year-old batted .251 with eight home runs, 17 doubles and 40 RBI along with 38 stolen bases in 105 games for Pittsburgh's highest minor-league affiliate this season.

Pie has appeared in 398 career games in the majors with the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles from 2007-11, batting .249 with 44 doubles, 17 home runs and 97 RBI.

To make room for Pie on the 25-man roster, the Pirates optioned pitcher Ryan Reid to Indy and to open up space on the 40-man roster, pitcher Wandy Rodriguez was transferred to the 60-day DL.
