The New England Patriots will honor a Boston police officer on Thursday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team has named officer John Moynihan an honorary captain for the season opener.

On March 27, Moynihan was shot in the face at point-blank range by a convicted felon and has built a relationship with Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

Kraft visited Moynihan in the hospital while he was recovering from several surgeries after the shooting. Kraft invited Moynihan to be the team's honorary captain at the season opener during the visit, as the Patriots organization calls him "a local hero and true patriot."
