The San Diego Padres optioned catcher Nick Hundley to Tucson on Saturday and recalled catcher Yasmani Grandal from the Triple-A club.

Hundley, 28, is batting just .166 in 55 games this season with three homers, 22 RBI and a .226 on-base percentage.

Grandal was hitting .335 for Tucson with a .443 on-base percentage, six homers and 35 RBI. The 23-year-old had an at-bat for the Padres on June 2, flying out in his major league debut.

He was acquired this past offseason along with right-handers Brad Boxberger and Edinson Volquez and infielder Yonder Alonso from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for right-hander Mat Latos.

The Padres are in Colorado to play the Rockies.
