Option play: Oklahoma has 4 seniors, all of whom can carry the ball for Sooners this year

While much of the preseason buzz at Oklahoma has focused on who will be the Sooners' starting quarterback, there's also some debate at another important offensive position - running back.

The Sooners have four proven, capable ball carriers in senior tailbacks Brennan Clay, Roy Finch and Damien Williams and senior fullback Trey Millard. And that's not even counting freshman Alex Ross, who has shown promise during preseason practice.

No. 16 Oklahoma will host Louisiana-Monroe on Aug. 31 and co-offensive coordinator Josh Heupel isn't ready to say who might receive the bulk of the carries.

Heupel says all four seniors need touches because they play effectively and they're experienced. He says if anyone stands out, he could end up receiving the bulk of the carries. But Heupel also says depth at running back is important because of inevitable injuries to ball carriers.
