(STATS) - Northwestern State coach Jay Thomas said Friday former Louisiana-Lafayette quarterback Brooks Haack has joined the Southland Conference program as a graduate transfer.

Two linebackers Nick Pierotti, from national champion City College of San Francisco, and Tremaine Whitley, from Navarro (Texas) Community College, also have joined the Demons, giving them seven junior college transfers this offseason.

Haack made eight starts last season and played in 21 career games, helping the Ragin' Cajuns to a pair of New Orleans Bowl appearances. As a junior, the 6-foot-1, 212-pounder completed 61 percent (123 of 201) of his passes for 1,407 yards and five touchdowns with seven interceptions. He also rushed for two touchdowns.

Juniors J.D. Almond and Joel Blumenthal, who both played extensively last season along with departed senior Stephen Rivers, will return to the Demons' lineup.

"Brooks adds another guy to that position with playing experience, along with J.D. and Joel, and it should be an exciting spring practice," Thomas said. "He was part of a Texas state championship team at Katy High School. Also, his dad was a college coach, including at Alabama, and went back to coach high school ball for family reasons, so Brooks grew up in the game.

The Demons finished 4-7 last season despite dropping their first five games.
