Last time he was at Bristol Motor Speedway, Joey Logano came agonizingly close to winning the NASCAR Nationwide Series race, coming up just behind Kyle Busch, his teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing.
Saturday morning at Bristol, Logano got his day off to a great start by winning the pole for this afternoon’s Ford EcoBoost 300 NNS race at Bristol with a lap of 124.210 mph in the No. 18 JGR Toyota.
“We lost here by about six inches in the fall, maybe we’ll win by about six inches this time,” said Logano, who earned his 17th pole in 91 career series starts. It was his first pole at Bristol after qualifying second here on three different occasions.
Trevor Bayne qualified second in the No. 60 Roush Fenway Racing Ford at 123.158 mph, followed by his teammate and reigning series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr. at 123.103 mph in the No. 6 Ford.
Elliott Sadler, the current series points leader was fourth at 123.024 mph in the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, followed by Brian Scott in a second JGR Toyota.
Kevin Harvick qualified sixth, followed by Brad Keselowski, and Kyle Busch, who now has his own race team. Completing the top 10 were Austin Dillon and Justin Allgaier.
