NFL Roundup: Giants Roll, Romo Hurt, Cards Fall To Bengals

Merry Christmas & Feliz Navidad to everyone today.

I'm still on the road spending the holidays with my family and friends in Arizona. But yesterday the Football gods gave us an early Christmas present by moving the majority of games to Christmas Eve, leaving the Green Bay Packers vs. Roberto Garza's Chicago Bears as the Christmas day main event.

Monday Tony Gonzalez and the Atlanta Falcons take on the New Orleans Saints.
Let's lead off Saturday's aftermath and start with the battle for New York as the Jets "hosted" the Giants.

Victor Cruz is definitely on good terms with Santa Claus.

With the Giants trailing 7-3 late in the second quarter, Cruz's 99-yard catch – the longest touchdown reception in team history – gave them a 10-7 lead and they never looked back.
Cruz amazingly broke away from two Jets defenders and raced down the sideline. He later set up another score after hauling down a 49-yard catch near the sideline.

Cruz had three catches for 164 yards, breaking the franchise's single-season record for receiving.

“I don't know man. I don't know. Every week I just try to go out there and do the best I can. Show my heart and show that I can play and catch the ball,” Cruz said afterward. “I just try to do everything right no matter who the opponent is but I guess it's just something about the Jets that inspires something in me and I just seem to have my biggest games against them.”

But down the hallway from the Giants locker room, Santa was not nice to the Jets quarterback in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 20-7, Sanchez lost the ball on a fumble but later bounced back by diving into the end zone to make it 20-14 with a little over seven minutes. But Sanchez then unraveled again, getting sacked in the end zone for a safety and finishing his day with another interception.

The Giants control their destiny after Dallas lost to the Eagles. They host the Cowboys next Sunday and a win will give them the division over Dallas. The Jets postseason chances aren't looking good. The Jets have to win at Miami and need Cincinnati and Tennessee lose. Oh and they need Oakland or Denver to lose as well.

That's a lot of presents to wish for.

Romo hurt, Cowboys lose hard

As Adry was experiencing the football at a giant state of the art stadium in New Jersey... I was experiencing football as its creators had intended.

On my mother’s couch with the smell of menudo in the air.

As with many of my holiday experiences the Dallas Cowboys were a big part of my Christmas Eve.

It's been a rough season, up and down. The Boys should have won many of the games that they lost. But for the second time this season they were just handled by the 7-8 Philadelphia Eagles.

Juan Castillo's defense proved to be too much for the Cowboys and they kept them off the board until the final seconds of the fourth quarter. The final score was 20-7.

QB Tony Romo injured his hand during his first offensive series and his hand was so swollen that it looked like the guy that blew up in "Big Trouble in Little China."

The Garcia family was disappointed once again this season and as Adry mentioned above the Cowboys will now face the Giants in the last game of the season. Winner gets the NFC East title and a spot in the playoffs, loser gets to go home and think about what could have been all offseason.

According to ESPN Romo is expected to play next week.

The Cardinals fall to the Bengals

Arizona Cardinals backup QB John Skelton has a season that's been pretty unpredictable. He's been really good, really awful, won bad games, lost good games, but in the end we don't know what his future will hold with the Arizona Cardinals who have QB Kevin Kolb and a big contract.
Skelton was 5-1 as the starter before today. Today he threw for 297 yards, two touchdowns and THREE interceptions as the Cincinnati Bengals moved one step closer to clinching an AFC Wild Card berth with a 23-16 win.

But while it doesn't look good on paper... Skelton and the Cards scored 16 points in the 4th quarter and came close to pulling the come from behind win.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to Skelton next year.

Carolina on my mind

The Carolina Panthers have had an exciting run at the end of the 2011 season. Today Ron Rivera's team defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 48-16 and are now 6-9 on the season.

To top it off QB Cam Newton broke Peyton Manning's rookie passing record. The future is looking bright for Rivera and Newton in Carolina.
