New NFL Uniforms Unveiled
The NFL unveiled its new, Nike-made uniforms at a high-profile event in Brooklyn.
New York – The NFL has unveiled their new uniforms designed by Nike for the upcoming season in the fall.
The gear was shown off by the league and Nike at a gridiron-themed fashion show at a Brooklyn film studio.
The fashion show had uniforms from all 32 teams on display, including some of the players modeling the uniforms themselves.
Along with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, New York Giants wide receiver and Super Bowl Champion Victor Cruz was on hand to model his team's uniform for the press.
This year marks the first time that Nike will be making the NFL team uniforms. For the past decade, Reebok was the chief uniform maker for the league.
Prior to the unveiling, the design details were a closely guarded secret at Nike’s Beaverton, Oregon-based shoe and apparel facility.
The biggest changes made to the uniforms were not the aesthetic aspects of the design but rather performance ones including newer lightweight fabrics and sleeker silhouettes.
While most of the designs held true to their original forms, the Seattle Seahawks addition of neon green makes their new uniforms starkly different from before.
Giants' Victor Cruz Agrees to Six-Figure Book Deal
Whether it’s a uniform or a tee shirt, design is something that is very important to Cruz, who has a clothing line of his own.
After his Super Bowl ring catapulted him to national fame, Cruz made the rounds at New York fashion week promoting his men's clothing line, Young Whales.
"We really wanted to be a large contributor and not just put our name in something and not be a part of it," Cruz said. "All the designs, everything that goes into it, it goes through us."
And while he had no input on Nike’s NFL design for the Giants, it looks as though Cruz is just glad to be back in uniform and looking forward to helping his team repeat their Super Bowl XLVI win.
