National Championship delivers 18.5 overnight rating

Bristol, CT ( - Ohio State's 42-20 victory over Oregon in the College Football Playoff national championship game delivered an 18.5 overnight rating.

This marked a 21 percent increase over the 2014 BCS National Championship game between Florida State and Auburn (15.3 rating). It also surpassed the 2011 BCS National Championship, which was the highest-rated game in cable history with a 16.1 rating.

In the primary home markets of the two schools, the telecast delivered a 51.2 in Columbus, meaning over 50 percent of households were tuned into the game, making it the No. 1 overall market. In Portland, Oregon, 37.6 percent of households were tuned into the game, which was the fourth best market in the overnight ratings.
