Shenzhen, China (SportsNetwork.com) - Former top-10 star Juan Monaco and Italian Simone Bolelli were a pair of first-round winners Monday at the inaugural Shenzhen Open tennis event.
Monaco handled fellow Argentine Federico Delbonis 6-3, 7-5, while Bolelli erased Aussie Matthew Ebden 6-4, 6-2 on the hardcourts at Shenzhen Longgang Tennis Center.
Also on Day 1, Indian Somdev Devvarman got past Chinese wild card Xin Gao 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
This week's top seeds are former French Open runner-up David Ferrer and two- time major champion Andy Murray, who will meet Devvarman in the round of 16.
The first-ever Shenzhen titlist will earn $106,970.
