If you've watched Lionel Messi play at all over the years, you have probably seen him approach the penalty area from the right side of the field, skitter to the left with his amazing dribbling skills while weaving through a string of defenders, finding an opening the size of a walnut and drilling the ball through into the back of the net.
It's the kind of move he seems to be able to do in his sleep, and on Sunday, he scored just such a goal in the second-half of Argentina's World Cup match against Bosnia-Herzegovina which gave the South American nation a 2-1 victory in the Group F opener for both teams.
Messi's strike in the 65th minute, was a left-footed shot that struck the inside of the post behind keeper Asmir Begovic and ricocheted all the way across to hit the net on the right-hand side of the goal. It was just the second World Cup goal for Messi, adding to one he scored eight years ago in Germany.
Vedad Ibisevic scored a close-in goal in the 85th to give Bosnia-Herzegovina hope.
Bosnia-Herzegovina got the worst possible start to its first World Cup when Sead Kolasinovic scored an own goal after just three minutes. Messi sent a free kick from the left flank into the penalty area that Marcos Rojo barely touched before the ball bounced off Kolasinovic's foot into Bosnia-Herzegovina's goal.
In other World Cup action Sunday, Karim Benzema scored twice and set up another that was confirmed by goal-line technology to help France beat Honduras, 3-0, in their Group E opener.
For nearly all the first half, Honduras played the 1998 Cup champions tough, but then midfielder Wilson Palacios, who had already drawn a yellow card, charged into Paul Pogba in the penalty area, earning a second yellow, and an automatic expulsion, and setting up a penalty kick.
Benzema calmly slotted the ball to the left of goalkeeper Noel Valladares.
With Honduras down to 10 men, France continued to dominate and Benzema set up the second goal in the 48th minute — the first to be confirmed by goal-line technology at the World Cup.
Benzema scored a second goal in the 72nd, firing in powerfully from inside the area after a long range shot by right back Mathieu Debuchy was blocked.
In Brasilia, Haris Seferovic scored deep in stoppage time, giving Switzerland a heart-breaking victory over Ecuador in their Group E opener.
Seferovic fired home the winner from close range in the last of three minutes of injury time. Ecuador barely had time to restart before the final whistle.
Enner Valencia gave Ecuador the lead in the 22nd minute, and Admir Mehmedi tied it in the 48th.
