Miami Marlins closer Steve Cishek and starting pitcher Jose Fernandez have been named the National League Co- Players of the Week for the period ending July 28.

Cishek, who has converted 17 straight saves, led MLB with five while posting a 0.00 ERA and five strikeouts over five innings. The 20-year-old Fernandez won both of his starts and put up a 2.40 ERA with an MLB-leading 21 strikeouts. The rookie fanned a career-high 13 in the Marlins' 3-2 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

Others considered for the award included the pair's teammate Giancarlo Stanton, the Milwaukee Brewers' Carlos Gomez, the Cincinnati Reds' Devin Mesoraco and Bronson Arroyo, the San Francisco Giants' Hunter Pence, the Chicago Cubs' Nate Schierholtz and the San Diego Padres' Tyson Ross.
